The Parent Institute says to Stress Mental Math. 
Ask your child to give you quick answers to small math problems. For example, “I’ve put in 3 cups of flour, but the recipe calls for five. How many more do I need?” 


“I need to bring 24 drinks for my class party. They come in packages of six. How many packages should I buy?”
